ABSTRACT

Information Systems (IS) of modern organizations and enterprises often rely on a network of partners’ IS to deliver the services. The resilience of this network is the necessary condition for the operation of such ISs. The Digital Business Ecosystem (DBE) theory has emerged as an approach to ensure functioning and resilience in dynamic and open networks. This paper presents three cases of analysis of resilience of DBEs. The objective of the analysis is to assess the resilience of DBEs during its design phase. During this phase, often, only structural information presented in ISs models is available. In order to assess the resilience, the DBE models are analyzed for the potential for fulfilment of typical ecosystem goals and roles. The three DBE cases analyzed are winter road maintenance, digital vaccine, and Covid-19 testing. The paper evaluates the resilience of the DBEs and formulates the practices for uncovering and strengthening it. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This chapter consists of several sections which contain contributions from members of IFIP Technical Committee 8 (Information Systems). We highlight the accomplishments of Technical Committee 8 (TC8) and its working groups over its 50 years history, and then envisage possible strategies for the future of information systems (IS) in a post-COVID world. This chapter begins with an overall view of the diverse and changing roles of the IS field then moves forward to foresee environmental sustainability and digital glocalization in a post-COVID-19 world. Next, we review the achievements of TC8, the establishment of the working groups within it, and predict what TC8 has to offer into the future. Lastly, we identify the individual working groups of TC8 to detail their activities as important conduits of research and practice in the field of IS over the past 50 years, then imagine the roles of the TC8 working groups in a post-COVID landscape. © 2021, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

ABSTRACT

Organizations adopt new tools and technologies even more during the Covid19 pandemic. Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) as a holistic management discipline supports systematic adoption processes by integration business and IT concerns. This integrated view requires the participation of different stakeholders to EAM projects. To minimize the risks resulting from this multi-perspective aspect, the principles of Design Thinking methods should be applied in the early phases of EAM. For Enterprise Modeling (4EM) is an Enterprise Modeling method that exhibits Design Thinking characteristics. By examining eight EAM projects from qualitative and quantitative perspectives, this paper tackles the question whether the 4EM as a Design Thinking Method contributes to the goals of the EAM projects. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
